I Vanna be on Wheel of Fortune

If I was only 10 years younger, five inches taller, and blonder, I would so enter the Wheel of Fortune "Vanna for a Day Contest." (Just click on the link to go to the Vanna For A Day Contest page.)

I mean, who wouldn't want to be Vanna White for a day -- and get paid to gracefully turn a few dozen letter boxes and read promo copy for 22 minutes a spin on Wheel of Fortune? Sign me up!

(Btw, for those of you unfamiliar with the Dr. Dave song "Vanna, Pick Me a Letter," you have to check out this video. Just ignore the intro material.)

I don't know about the rest of you, but I loved Wheel of Fortune growing up, back when Chuck Woolery was the host (and Susan Stafford was the hostess). And have been known to occasionally watch since. (The spouse and I also have fond memories of watching the Italian version of Wheel of Fortune, known as La Ruota della Fortuna, when we were cycling through Italy many years ago.)

So if you think you've got what it takes to be the next Vanna White, go ahead and enter. (The contest runs through February 7.) And send me your audition video to post! :-) Though personally, I think Kelly Ripa has a lock on getting it, what with her on air audition on Live this Thursday (jump to 10:36 on the clip).

What do you mean "10 years younger"? Vanna is old enough to be your grandma.

Maybe down South where you live, Betty. ;-)

All I know is, turning letters has got to be (and pay) better than typing them.

There is a Hamilton professor who bears more than a passing resemblance to Pat Sajak. He wore three-piece suits in class which heightened the effect.

I don't have what it takes. I am to shy to be on television and wearing those shoes, I'd break my ankle.

btw Vanna doesn't turn the letters any more. She just touches them and they light up. I watch the show most nights, especiall the last 15 minutes. And I've been watching since she did turn the letters and the prizes were kind of cheezy.

@Dave S.: Did he also wear a toupee and ask you if you wanted to buy a vowel?

@Charlene: Well, I think you have what it takes, in spades. So there. Also (hanging head) I didn't realize Vanna just touches the letters now. Am so ashamed. One more strike against me.

Ahh memories. I was a contestant on the NZ version of "Wheel of Fortune" back in 1992. My kids now use the embarrassing video tape for blackmail :-/

@Ange: I am SO jealous! Any way I can get you to send me a link to that video? :-) Btw, my daughter and her friends watched Wheel of Fortune together (via Google Buzz) last night, and J-THREE-O told me she solved nearly all the puzzles. I'm so proud. How did you do? Did you win anything good? Much easier to play at home on the couch than in front of cameras.
