Katy Perry does Sesame Street

Personally, I thought singer Katy Perry, she of the whipped-cream shooting breasts, was a bit of an odd choice to be singing a duet with Elmo on Sesame Street. But is Perry's cleavage really harmful to young children? I don't think so. And I think millions of dads would agree.

However, after Sesame Street received a number of complaints about the video, which to date has only been available on YouTube, the producers decided to not feature the video on Sesame Street after all. Which means Perry will have to remain a teenage dream.

Note to Elmo: I saw you trying to sneak a peak up Katy Perry's skirt, you naughty little red monster.

FYI: More about Cleavagegate here.

UPDATED: Best tweet/comment on the subject, courtesy of Katy Perry's fiance, Russell Brand: "Today's Sesame Street will NOT be brought to you by the number 34 or the letter D."

I think it is a cute video. Ok, a bit of creative editing could hide some cleavage more, but really, what has happened to us? If this were 1974, no one would have looked twice. Wait, I don't think Elmo was created by then, but you know what I mean. I would bet money that parents in Europe and Canada wouldnt have a problem with it.

Unbelievable
Censorship runs the airwaves
Elmo is not real

Miss Piggy has been much more shameless in her attire. This is a scandal. Animals can be naked right there on TV and no one objects but let one nice sweet human girl wear a dress without sleeves and people go batshit!

@Charlene re Miss Piggy, I completely agree, though I don't believe Miss Piggy appeared (or was a regular) on Sesame Street. Mainly she was featured on the Muppet Show, which was geared to adults, not preschoolers. As to her shameless attire (and behavior), check out this fabulous clip of Miss Piggy and Raquel Welch from the Muppet Show.

@Cristina, I'm not so sure no one would have looked twice, but I do think Cleavagegate has gotten a bit out of control.

@Larissa, neither is Katy Perry. ;-)

The target audience for Sesame Street is preschool aged children, of course. I have two boys, aged 5 and 8, and I assure you that neither of them would even notice the cleavage. They're not at that age, yet. I'm not certain whom the complaining parents think they're protecting, but it's not the kids who generally watch Sesame Street. That, and I saw just as much cleavage on the streets of New York this summer.

This level of organization suggests that the GOP troops are marching together, though.

Yeah, pretty ridiculous. I mean, the kids who watch Sesame Street are only a few years removed from breast-feeding; at worst, they may find themselves feeling inexplicably peckish.

I'm more offended by Elmo. He's naked!

@JWT: Excellent points.

@Another David S.: Peckish is a great word. And I agree.

@Ange: Though one wouldn't know with all that red fur.
