Lies, lies, lies, yeah (they're gonna get you)

I am so sick of all the lies that the Republican presidential candidate Willard Mitt Romney and his sidekick, vice-presidential candidate Paul Ryan, have been spouting -- and repeating even after nonpartisan fact-checking organizations have called them on their lies -- I want to scream. The only time I want to hear lies is in the lyrics of a song, preferably one with a beat that I can dance to.

So, as I have been told that wiring the presidential and vice-presidential candidates to a lie detector (and an independent fact checker) during the debates and having the moderator administer an electric shock every time one of them lies, the bigger the lie, the bigger the shock, would probably kill them, I propose playing a snippet from one of the following songs each time a candidate lies.

So which song should it be? The Thompson Twins' "Lies"?

The Eurythmics' "Would I lie to you?"

Or Depeche Mode's "Policy of Truth"?

Or do you have another suggestion?

Me thinks Democrats are unfamiliar with fact/value distinction. There were no lies in Ryan's speech as has been fully fleshed out elsewhere. Same for Romney. The One has over promised. He is now being held accountable. 16 trillion in debt-a fact. More piled up in 3 and a half years than any other president in 8. Fact No plan to ever end deficits. Fact. Plus 8% unemployment longer than any President since the War. Fact. Full Democrat control of House and Senate for two years. Fact. Gitmo open. Fact. No free trade agreements entered. Fact. Cost of GM bailoutthat went to union cronies while immeserating bond holders and non-union workers-25 billion. Fact. Obama has done everything liberals wanted and the results are awful. Yell liar all you want but facts are stubborn things.

Re Ryan's speech, see http://factcheck.org/2012/08/ryans-vp-spin/. I could also cite dozens of other sources.

Re Romney, see http://www.politifact.com/personalities/mitt-romney/statements/byruling/pants-fire/ for starters.

Also, please review the definition of "lie," as in "to make an untrue statement with intent to deceive" (my emphasis; see http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/lie?show=2&t=1346809230).

Note to future commenters: All further unfactchecked comments will be deleted.

Hey Anonymous,

Did you know that of that "$5 Trillion" in additional debt that you're trying to lay at the feet of President Obama, over $4.631 Trillion (93%) was already projected to occur in August of 2009, based on the economic conditions created by and policies enacted by President Bush, a projection issued by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) well before President Obama's first budget became law?

Did you know that of the 39.5% increase in the Debt-to-GDP ratio for 2012 between the January 2008 CBO projection and their August 2012 projection, all but 6.9% of it was already projected by the CBO in August of 2009 based on the economic conditions created by and policies enacted by President Bush, in a projection issued by the CBO well before President Obama's first budget became law?

Did you know that of the differences between the August 2009 CBO projections and the August 2012 projections (which take into account changes in taxes and spending during the Obama Administration) almost all are accouted for by differences in revenue - tax revenue being lower than anticipated - not spending?

Did you know that, according to a CBPP analysis of CBO numbers, the three biggest factors in exploding the national debt are the Bush tax cuts, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the prescription drug benefit enacted by the Republican Congress and President Bush?

Wars unpaid for. Prescription drug benefits unpaid for. Monstrous tax breaks for monstrously wealthy Americans unpaid for. That all adds up and, yes, Republicans, you DID build that. Facts sure are stubborn things, aren't they?

Let's not forget that Ryan voted for all of those budget-busters, too. Of course, I'm sure he was crying tears of Rearden Metal as he did so.

A commenter over on Balloon-Juice (one of my fave blogs), recommended this video clip about facts, which I had to share.
