Why is this seal smiling? Because she lives in beautiful, sunny La Jolla, California -- rent and mortgage free -- and gets to nap in the sun all day without having to worry about a sun burn or wrinkles or getting a paycheck or driving her pup to soccer or lacrosse or softball practice. Also, no polar bears.
These seals also looked pretty happy. And if it had been just a bit warmer (and not illegal), I'm pretty sure the spouse would have jumped over the railing and joined them. :-)
Also, until this trip, I had never seen beach squirrels before. Must be a California thing, which would explain why they were so mellow and friendly.

Seriously, we are going to have a large zoo! Cutest!
We have always liked the San Diego Chargers uniforms -- we loved Lance Alworth and Gary Garrison -- and the San Diego Conquistadors have a fun and memorable history in the old ABA.
Oh, I thought it was because he busted a cap in bin Laden's butt.
@Anonymous #1, or we could just move to San Diego. They have a very nice (big) zoo there. :-)
@Anonymous #2, I somehow missed the seal's Chargers uniform. Also, if he played for the Chargers, I don't think he'd be smiling. ;-)
@Betty, this was just a civilian brown seal. The navy seals that took out bin Laden were over in Coronado (which we also visited). ;-)
Those bloody Grey Squirrels are the reason our native Red Squirrels are a being wiped out and have become an endangered native species !!!! Shot at every opportunity !!!! Cute immigrant killers - lovely !!!
Mmm...I think I would quite like to trade places with one of those seals for a day. Especially now that we're in the throws of winter down here.
I want to steal the seals! They are so cute- and after seeing the characters in 50 first dates, I've always wanted a marine mammal of the kind. How did you get so close to the smiling one?
Ava
@Ava, zoom lens. :-)
