What a trip

Or what develops when a middle-aged woman with a penchant for photography and her middle-aged spouse drop their tween daughter at sleepaway camp and then go on a six-day roadtrip to Montreal via Cooperstown and the Adirondacks.

You really otter see Cooperstown...

And try that Foo Kin restaurant while you're there...

or the Yum Yum Shack...

and go on a tour at the Brewery Ommegang (where the beer flows like milk)...

Then if you need to make a pitstop, and you happen to be passing through Lewis, New York, try Betty Beavers Truck Stop & Diner (even if you don't have a truck or a hankering for beaver)...

In Montreal, be sure to say bonjour to the gnomes (who never roam alone)...

and... sweet! (Good things those cupcakes are protected by ADT!)

But don't forget to eat your veggies, which are fresh and plentiful at the Jean-Talon Market...

And be sure to quaff a Molson while you're in town... or bring home a truckload...

Hmm... that bus looks a little fishy...

A bientôt...

Brewery Ommegang tour?!?

I'm jealous! I love Belgian beers and they produce some top notch beverages. I tried Three Philosophers a few weeks back at the Savor: An American Craft Beer& Food Experience held in Wash, DC.

The rest of Cooperstown looks interesting too. How was the Yum Yum Shack? Did you visit the baseball hall of fame? Did you need advance reservations for Cooperstown visit or just did it on the fly? Details!!

Montreal is cool too, but there I have been a few times myself. Especially enjoy the French side of town.

The best part of the Brewery Ommegang tour was the tasting at the end. : ) They give out free samples of ALL their beers (which are technically ales, except for the Three Philosophers, which is classified as a barley wine because of the high alcohol content) and little pretzels. We liked the Rare Vos and the Abbey Ale best. Btw, the tour and tasting are FREE.

Re Cooperstown, no, you do not need a reservation to go to the Baseball Hall of Fame. Just don't go during a big event or weekend. We were there just before induction weekend (which started this Friday) and it was busy but not crazy. We spent over three hours in the BHoF -- and still didn't see everything. But 3+ hours was about all we could take. On a scale of "Struck Out" to "Grand Slam," we'd rate it a double. Ken Burns did a much better job of telling the story of baseball, but the Museum/Hall of Fame is absolutely worth a trip. And Cooperstown is lovely. Nice old houses. (We stayed at the Inn at Cooperstown, which was very nice and convenient.) Nice people. And, if you are a baseball fan, it is Baseball, U.S.A.

Yes, we dined at the Yum Yum Shack. Loved the outside (hence the pic). Food was good, not great. And no, we didn't eat at Foo Kin John's.

Did actually go into Betty Beavers (to use the bathroom). And loved, loved, loved Montreal. (Stayed at a fantastic boutique hotel called Le Saint-Sulpice in the old part of town.)

That enough detail, Powa? If not, send me an email.

Those details suffice!

Thanks for sharing.

I can get on a roll with the questions at times. Just ask JJV; One of his many sobriquets for me is "The Grand Inquisitor".

I'm sorry, I couldn't get past the "middle-aged" part. Toi? Jamais! A spring chicken you are--no matter what the calendar might say. And don't you forget it, sweet cheeks.

Now, what's this trip you were talking about...?
