School's out for summer

Or will be at 12 noon today.

I'm not sure who is more excited, the kid or us. I will certainly be a lot happier not having to get up at 6 a.m. every morning in order to drag a cranky, sleepy child off to the bus stop at 7:06 every morning. Though actually our daughter really likes school, including homework, and will miss her friends and teacher terribly; and we will miss having 6 - 8 uninterrupted hours to do work. But we are all happy it's summer. Though we would be a heckuva lot happier if it would stop friggin' raining ALL THE TIME and warm up a bit. Seriously, I think I'm developing gills.

Anyway, in honor of the last day of school, I think it only appropriate to play a little Alice Cooper.

I must now go prepare for our little end-of-school party and make sure the Prosecco is properly chilled.

Here's to a great summer. Cheers!

Ah yes, the bitter-sweet start of summer. Through the eyes of a kid, it's an awesome time -- two months of uniterrupted fun. As a parent, it's another story -- two months of shuttling kids around, drying wet towels, cleaning up ice cream, and figuring out how to keep them occupied. If the rain ever stops, it could be lots of fun. Hope you have many walks on the beach, lazy summer evenings, and time to catch fireflies. Enjoy!

I took Fiona to the bakery this morning for breakfast to start the summer off right - with a ton of sugar!

You had me at Alice Cooper but lost me at Prosecco.

To clarify: The Prosecco was for the adults. The spouse and I, who accompany our daughter to the bus stop, which is at the end of our driveway, every morning, had over our friend, G., whose youngest daughter is on the same bus/at the same bus stop, to celebrate the last early morning run of the school year. G. made cranberry/white chocolate scones, which were DELICIOUS, and I served mimosas and coffee. We also had the spouse's business partner and friend of the blog staying with us, and he joined in the festivities. And a jolly good time was had by all. : )
